Staying at home with your kids can be a lot of fun. You spend time playing games they like and teach them interesting stuff where they could learn a bunch of useful lessons. Many parents would also take this as an opportunity to assist their kids in reading especially those who are just starting out.
Devoting 20 to 40 minutes a day in reading would be best when at home. Kids have a very short span of interest and you do not want to waste it. Reading for an hour or two will somehow irritate your kids as they would go look for another thing to do. Just make sure that you make it a routine to read 20 to 40 minutes a day not unless your kids themselves insist to read more than the set time.
Another best practice is to find a special reading place in your house. This way, your kids would be conditioned that when in place they have to focus on reading. It will also eliminate other forms of distractions like extreme noise, toys, and alike. You can also put pillows and other comfy materials to make it even more comfortable for you and for your kids.
Choose suited reading materials for them. Things will not work out if your reading materials do not match their reading level. Bear in mind that kids only give attention to materials that look so interesting in their eyes. Colorful and short reading stories are advised to be given to small kids while stories with interesting storylines are best for bigger ones.
