The side of public school teachers on the decision that requires them to render service starting June 1

According to the recent virtual briefing from DepEd Sec. Leonor Briones, the opening of classes shall be on August 24 whether physically or virtually. But the teaching and non-teaching personnel will be required to render service starting June 1 to undergo capacity building in preparation for the "new normal" in education. Besides, according to Briones, teachers have already had their 2-month vacation.

Teachers' Dignity Coalition Chairperson, Benjo Basas, expressed the side of the public school teachers regarding this decision from the Department of Education.

Here is his statement:

"Our teachers will comply as long as the safety of all- teachers and learners will be ensured, especially when physical interaction is necessary. By the way, hindi naman po nakapagbakasyon ng dalawang buwan ang mga guro bacause we cannot consider the ECQ months as vacation time. Ngayon nga marami nang mga online tasks ang pinagagawa sa mga guro kahit nasa gitna pa tayo ng krisis. By June lalong darami ito as stated by our Secretary, kaya kahit pa sa August ang opening ay sasabak na sa trabaho ang ating mga guro."
