June 25, 2020 – The Department of Education (DepEd) would like to clarify statements attributed to Undersecretary Nepomuceno Malaluan published by The Philippine Star (Pang-masa) today, June 25, regarding the “P1,500 monthly budget for the internet allowance of teachers”.
It is true that Usec. Malaluan said that the Department is closely reviewing the allocations of the budget to provide support to teachers with the new expenses they will incur in the new modalities of education. However, the statement was made in response to a general question, and not directed to, or in response to a specific group or organization. He also did not refer to any specific amount.
The Department has anticipated that the incoming school year would require readjusting its budget, and has been working on this while monitoring the needs of the community based on the statistics of schools and the results of the Learner Enrollment and Survey Form (LESF).
DepEd shall continue to look for ways to support our parents, teachers, and learners in the transition to the new normal of education this SY 2020-2021.
