A proposal to provide for a housing allowance and construction of on-site living quarters was raised in a Senate hearing to ease the burden of public school teachers who are assigned in remote or far-flung areas in the country.
"Marami po doon na natutulog sa classrooms at wala po talaga silang matirahan. The possibility of subsidizing their housing will not only alleviate their financial difficulties, it will also attract more teachers to enter the public service," said Senator Francis Tolentino who chairs the Committee on Urban Planning, Housing And Resettlement.
Other Senators like Grace Poe and Ramon Revilla Jr. also filed separate bills to provide for boarding and lodging expenses for public school teachers.
Given the existing crisis the country is facing, this could greatly help our teachers who perform their duties in schools situated in remote areas to save time, money, and energy.
