Solon files Special Hardship Allowance Bill for Teachers amid Pandemic

Assistant Minority Leader and Teachers Representative of the Alliance of Concerned Teachers (ACT) France Castro filed the House Bill No. 7126 which seeks to provide a special hardship allowance for public school teachers.

In a press release from the Facebook Page of ACT Teachers Party-List, it said that it is the responsibility of the government to compensate teachers who are asked to report on their stations including places under the state of calamity and health hazards such as COVID-19.

"HB 7126 is an urgent and timely bill for public school teachers especially now that the Department of Education continues to push for a formal reopening of the new school year in different modes. Institutionalizing the Special Hardship Allowance compensates teachers for their hard work and sacrifices especially now amid the pandemic and the blended learning modes of the Department of Education where teachers are tasked to deliver the self-learning modules to the houses of their students. Providing for adequate SHA for public school teachers is the obligation of the government especially during a pandemic," Castro said.

Castro stressed that public school teachers are working hard and sacrificing their own health and welfare in delivering modules to their learners in the name of service. She said that the government should commend this selfless effort from the teachers and give rightful compensations for it.

"Ginagawa ng ating mga guro ang lahat ng kanilang makakaya upang maihatid ang edukasyon sa kanilang mga mag-aral. Tapat nilang ginagawa ang kanilang mandato na maghatid ng edukasyon sa mga mag-aaral sa kabila ng mga nakaambang sakit dulot ng pandemiya. Dapat lamang na tugunan din ng gobyerno ang kaniyang obligasyong bigyan ng sapat na kompensasyon ang serbisyo na binibigay ng ating mga guro na literal na hinahatid ang mga modules sa mga kabahayan nang walang kasiguraduhan sa kanilang kaligtasan laban sa COVID-19," Castro added.
