The Department of Education is now eyeing to reduce the reproduction of self-learning modules or SLMs for this school year because of the threat it may impose on the environment.
Most of the schools in the country chose the modular distance learning modality as a result of the survey made a few months back. Hence, the demand for bond papers increased tremendously which is alarming as it leads to cutting more and more trees.
DepEd Secretary Leonor Briones emphasized that since most of the schools will be using modules for the delivery lessons, it may be harmful to the environment as we are losing trees just to provide papers needed for the production of such materials, plus it is undeniably expensive.
