Senator Win Gatchalian seeks to review the implementation of the Magna Carta for Public School Teachers (R.A. No. 4670) for the improvement of the teachers' living and working conditions.
Under Senate Resolution No. 522 filed by Gatchalian, a comprehensive and critical review of the said law should be conducted to identify the gaps, issues, and concerns of its implementation. Gatchalian stressed that there are provisions in the law that are not being implemented which should have brought better living conditions for the teachers.
Among the provisions mandated by the Magna Carta for Public School Teachers are the following:
- Free and Compulsory Medical Examinations before they take up teaching.
- Public school teachers shall not render more than six hours of actual classroom teaching in a day.
- Public school teachers are entitled to additional compensation if their work exceeds six hours a day and if they accomplish tasks outside their normal duties.
- Public school teacher salaries should be comparable with those of other professions where similar educational qualifications and training are required.
