The senate has approved, on its second reading, the bill which seeks to increase the teaching supplies allowance of public school teachers from P3,500 to P10,000 to be given incrementally.
Under Senate Bill 1092 or the “Teaching Supplies Allowance Act”, each public school teacher shall receive P5,000 for the School Years 2021-2022 and 2022-2023. It will then increase to P7,500 for the School Year 2023-2024 until it becomes P10,000 for SY 2024-2025 onwards.
Even before the pandemic, public school teachers have been requesting for an increase to their "chalk allowance" as it does not suffice the actual needs for teaching. Various senators have extended their support to this matter which includes the approval of this bill on its second reading.
