A Group of teachers urged DepEd to increase the proposed Internet Allowance for Teachers

A group of teachers has called on the Department of Education to increase the currently proposed Internet Allowance for Teachers from P450 to P1,500 per month.

According to the Alliance of Concerned Teachers (ACT), the P450 per month will not suffice the practical needs of teachers in terms of online activities. Many of the preparations, training, webinars, and alike are now being conducted and delivered online.

The group also emphasized that with the progression of distance learning in the country, most of the teachers have been covering all the necessary expenses in order to cope up with the changes in the new normal as mentioned above.

“It’s been over a month since classes started, with teachers and learners shouldering the costs of blended learning even as they themselves are reeling from the effects of the pandemic,” said ACT General Secretary Raymond Basilio.
