Around 15,000 teachers are demanding the President grant them monthly P1,500 internet allowance to ease their burden in the delivery of education especially now in the time of pandemic and as they are in the front line in the implementation of distance learning.
Teacher-leaders of the Alliance of Concerned Teachers together with several public school teachers’ federation in NCR, brought to Malacanang Palace on Thursday, Feb. 18, some 15,000 signatures of public school teachers formally asking President Duterte to grant their demand for a monthly P1,500 internet allowance.
“Our teachers’ meager salaries could no longer take the debilitating costs of distance learning, which should have been the government’s responsibility in the first place. We call on President Duterte to finally end our teacher’s woes on mounting internet bills and order for the provision of internet allowance to teachers,” said Raymond Basilio, ACT Secretary-General.
“While the government is saving a lot from reduced operating expenses with the work-from-home setup, and squandering billions on war machines and pampering the armed forces, it is plainly unfair to pass on to teachers the duty of funding education. Our teachers are being shortchanged by the government once again as to how we were swindled by Pres. Duterte with his unfulfilled salary increase promise,” Basilio added.
