A group of teachers called on the government to grant its overdue promise of increasing the salaries of teachers in the country.
In the recent news, President Rodrigo Duterte affirmed that teachers will get the salary increase that he promised soon as he stressed that teachers are close to his heart. He also pointed out that the government has is facing major financial constraints brought by the pandemic.
ACT TEACHERS Partylist Representative France Castro meanwhile said that the government has enough budget to grant the said increase.

“Mayroong napakalaking budget na P19 bilyon ang National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict kahit na may Covid pandemic pero ‘pag sa suweldo, benepisyo at pangunahing pangangailangan ng edukasyon para sa ligtas at kalidad na edukasyon, walang pera dahil sa Covid?” said Castro.
The group has been pushing for a Salary Grade 15 for an entry-level teaching position or Teacher I which is now around P33,575.
“Tumaas na ang presyo ng langis, galunggong at iba pang mga pangunahing bilihin. Kailan na ang pangakong subsantial na taas-suweldo ng mga guro at kawani?” she added.
