55 hours of work a week increases the risk of death, UN says

According to the study conducted by the United Nations, working 55 hours a week or more increases the risk of death. It may bring harm to one's health in the form of heart diseases and strokes.

The said study is considered as the first global analysis on health and life risks brought by working long hours.

This comes after the changes in workplaces and work habits caused by the existing pandemic that could lead to longer working hours, says the UN's World Health Organization and International Labour Organization agencies.

“Working 55 hours or more per week is a serious health hazard,” said the director of the WHO’s environment, climate change, and health department, Maria Neira.
