Higher teaching supplies allowance for teachers even after the pandemic reiterated by Sen. Gatchalian

Sen. Win Gatchalian who also chairs the Senate Committee on Basic Education, Arts, and Culture, reiterated the call for higher teaching supplies allowance even beyond the pandemic.

Gatchalian believes that increasing the teaching supplies allowance of public school teachers is practical support to help them with the expenses under the distance learning or even way beyond the pandemic.

“Ang panukala nating pagtaas ng teaching supplies allowance ay pagbibigay ng suporta at pagkilala sa sakripisyo ng mga guro, lalo na ngayong panahon ng pandemya. Kailangang pagsikapan nating maibsan ang pasaning pinansyal ng mga guro upang maturuan nang husto ang kanilang mga mag-aaral,” said Gatchalian.

Sen. Win is a co-author of Senate Bill 1092 or the ‘Teaching Supplies Allowance Act of 2020' which will provide the increase of teaching supplies allowance. For SY 2022-2023, teachers will receive P5,000 allowance, SY 2023-2024 they will receive P7,500, and P10,000 by the SY 2024-2025.

Gatchalian said that the grant of this allowance should be institutionalized as a support to the public school teachers in delivering education even at difficult times.
