The Commission on Elections (COMELEC) has approved the request from the Department of Education to increase the compensation of public school teachers who will serve as electoral board and poll workers in the upcoming 2022 elections.
DepEd Secretary Leonor Briones has expressed her gratitude to COMELEC for its positive response to increasing the said compensation given the current health crisis in the country.
“We want to express our gratitude to the Comelec for approving our request for higher compensation for our teachers that will render their services in the next year’s election. Given the current health situation, it is rightful for them to receive additional allowance,” said Briones in a statement.
Below are the proposed honoraria for teachers who will serve in the 2022 elections:
Chairperson: P9,000
EM Members: P8,000
DepEd Supervisor Official (DESO): P7,000
Support Staff: P5,000
According to COMELEC, there will also be provisions for transportation, food, water allowance, and clean-up and maintenance expenses in the budget proposal for the said elections.
