Teachers need quality rest so they can fully recharge for another challenging school year - Teachers' Group

A group of teachers has once again slammed the Department of Education for not letting the public school teachers get their well-deserved vacation after a year of extended work hours and voluminous paperwork.

ACT NCR Union Campaign Officer Joselyn Martinez stressed that the agency should refrain from giving continuous work to teachers and should let them enjoy their much-awaited break.

“Teachers are neither carabaos nor machines. DepEd should stop treating them as such. Teachers need quality rest so they can fully recharge for another challenging school year,” ended Martinez.

Martinez also lamented that even with the onslaught of the pandemic, the DepEd did not cease to make Brigada Eskwela a ruthless competition among schools. In fact, for this year’s Brigada Eskwela, the criteria for “Resource Generated” is even amplified.

“In SY 2019 and 2020, the criterion “Resource Generated” is pegged at 15%. But for current SY 2021, this increased to 30%. What is DepEd thinking? Why put so much emphasis on getting resources at a time when people are struggling and hardly hit by the pandemic? During these extraordinary, trying times, it is the government who must first and foremost ensure that provisions and necessities are within people’s reach,” argued Martinez.
