The Department of Education was asked to allot funds for the proposed special risk allowance for teachers who will participate in the face-to-face classes.
Marikina City Representative Stella Quimbo filed House Resolution 2410 that seeks to provide a P80,000 special risk allowance for every teacher who contracts COVID-19 during the conduct of face-to-face classes in the country.
According to her, teachers are also considered frontliners who will be dealing with young children who are still unvaccinated.
"The idea is to incentivize all teachers to volunteer and sign up for face-to-face classes," she told ANC's Headstart," said Quimbo.
This special risk allowance will require around P18.5 million which according to Quimbo can be funded using the DepEd's savings.
"It was revealed that a lot of their funds have not been spent. If you sweep the savings of DepEd I’m almost sure you'll find that amount," she added.
