Govt urged to increase the salary for teachers

The Alliance of Concerned Teachers urged the government to provide the public school teachers with reasonable monthly salaries that considering the inflation rate of 4.5 percent.

According to the group, the current salaries of teachers will not be sufficient to support their families due to the inflation rate at the end of 2021 and to the continuous price hikes of basic commodities and services.

Secretary-General Raymond Basilio of ACT once again asked called on the administration to deliver its promise in doubling the monthly salary of public school teachers.

"Our computations showed that more than 90% of public school teachers who occupy Teacher 1,2, and 3 positions are set to receive 5.4 percent to 6.5 percent gross pay hikes starting January 2022. However, with increased tax deductions and mandatory contributions, they will only get to take home net pay increases of 2.8 percent to 5.3 percent, which are insufficient to even cover the price hikes in commodities and services," it explained.

Basilio also pointed out that compared to the uniformed personnel and nurses, public school teachers are receiving way lower salaries.
