Senator Sherwin Gatchalian continues to push the increase of monthly salary of public school teachers from Salary Grade 11 to Salary Grades 13 or 14. This will turn the salary of an entry-level position (Teacher I) from P25, 439 to P29,798 or P32,321.
Gatchalian stressed that to encourage more Filipinos to join the teaching force the country has to offer them a reasonable salary.
"We want to raise the morale of our teachers and encourage more students to take up education courses," said Gatchalian.
According to him, the entry-level pay of our teachers is way lower than that of the other ASEAN countries.
Gatchalian proposed to increase the entry-level pay of teachers to P30,000
