Despite the pandemic the country is facing for almost two years now, acting presidential spokesperson and Communications Secretary Martin Andanar said the salary increase for teachers may soon be delivered.
“I’m sure mayroon ding pagtaas ng suweldo sa mga guro natin. Mahal ni Tatay Digong ang ating mga guro," Adanar said.
He also stressed that he will coordinate with DepEd Secretary Leonor Briones towards the realization of this matter.
In line with this, Senator Sherwin Gatchalian has an existing proposal to increase the monthly salary of entry-level public school teachers from Salary Grade 11 (P25,439) to Salary Grades 13 or 14 (P29,798 or P32,321).
"We want to raise the morale of our teachers and encourage more students to take up education courses," Gatchalian said.
According to the senator, the government will need P92.1 billion budget in order to fund the salary increase of teachers to Salary Grade 14.
