Albay Representative Joey Sarte Salceda files House Bill No. 662 which seeks to prohibit the use of cellphones and other similar digital devices during classes.
"Cellphones and digital devices are so ubiquitous to the point that their use has become so closely intertwined with our daily routine and activities," stated in its explanatory note.
"With its many advantages, these smart devices can also cause distraction and disruption to work and school activities, especially among the youth," it added.
This bill seeks to prohibit, with few exceptions, the use of cellphones and other digital devices in all private and public schools in the country.
On the other hand, the Department of Education has an existing DepEd Order similar to the proposed bill of Rep. Salceda which is the DepEd Order no. 83, s. 2003.
