Salary hike for teachers from Salary Grade 11 to 19 pushed

A lawmaker from Camarines Sur advocated for the endorsement of a proposal that would raise the minimum salary grade of public school teachers from Salary Grade 11 to 19. This move is intended to fulfill President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.'s commitment to increasing teachers' salaries.

In a statement, Rep. Luis Raymund Villafuerte Jr. expressed that the inadequate compensation provided for nearly 800,000 public school teachers has resulted in a lack of motivation for them to enhance their abilities and seek further education and training.

He also stressed that despite their crucial responsibilities in bringing about positive intellectual, social, cultural, political, and moral transformation in our society, these teachers are among the least-paid workers in the country.

“Increasing their take-home pay and providing for a permanent teaching supplies allowance with a provision for a steady bump per school year will hopefully incentivize them to strive for excellence in their field and make teaching a more attractive profession for our students,” said Villafuerte.

If House Bill 1851 becomes law, it will increase the current salary of entry-level public school teachers from Salary Grade 11 (P27,000) to Salary Grade 19 (P51,357).
