Ending classes in April in the coming school year 2024-2025 will be more practical and beneficial to education. The Alliance of Concerned Teachers (ACT) stated that not holding classes during April and May could benefit educational productivity. This comes as they voice worries over how suspending in-person classes affects the quality of teaching and learning.
The group stressed that by ending classes in April for the next school year, the total school days would be 175 from the current 179 days.

“For SY 2025-2026, we can start classes by June 23, 2025 and end classes by March 31, 2026 and we will have 188 school days. Then for SY 2026-2027, we can start the classes by June 8, 2026 which completes our reversion to the pre-pandemic calendar,” said ACT Chairman Vladimer Quetua.
Quetua emphasized the importance of reverting the school break to April and May, arguing that it would enhance educational productivity. He pointed out that the transition of almost 6,000 schools across the country to alternative delivery modes (ADMs) in the early weeks of April underscores the urgency of addressing the adverse effects of rising temperatures. These conditions not only distract students but also hinder the quality of teaching and learning, while also exposing both educators and students to serious health hazards.
