Education Secretary Sonny Angara announced on Wednesday his intention to revise the basic education curriculum based on teachers' feedback, particularly regarding the "exhausting" mandate that requires them to teach in the classroom for a maximum of six hours daily.
Speaking to reporters, Angara mentioned that it is acceptable for teachers to teach for less than six hours per day.
He clarified that the current policy allows for a maximum of six hours of teaching time.
However, in practice, teachers report that they often have to teach for six consecutive hours each day.
Additionally, some schools still enforce double shifting due to a shortage of classrooms.
“Siguro we will amend the curriculum moving forward in line with the criticisms or comments of the people on the ground like the teachers,” he added.
