In a move hailed as a significant milestone for the education sector, Department of Education (DepEd) Secretary Sonny Angara expressed his gratitude to President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. for his recent approval of a salary standardization initiative. This decision has led to a notable increase in wages for both teaching and non-teaching personnel across the country.
In the recent 2024 DepEd Performance Report, Secretary Angara emphasized that this development represents a vital step in supporting educators and staff who play a crucial role in shaping the nation’s future. "Our teachers and education personnel are at the heart of building a brighter future for our children. By ensuring fair and competitive compensation, we are not only recognizing their efforts but also investing in the quality of education," he stated.
"Isang magandang kilos o aksyon ng ating mahal na Pangulo, ginawa niya yung salary standardization na sakop ng ating mga teachers and non-teaching personnel. So, kung dati ang tinatanggap ng Teacher I mga P400,000 sa isang taon, it comes out to around P27,000 per month. Tumaas yun ng P40,000 sa isang taon at tataas pa yun in the future," he added.
The salary increase is expected to benefit thousands of workers in the education sector, boosting morale and enhancing their overall well-being. Secretary Angara acknowledged the move as a testament to the administration’s commitment to prioritizing education and addressing long-standing issues in the teaching profession.
