DepEd plans to promote qualified teachers as principals to achieve a 1:1 principal-to-school ratio

The Department of Education (DepEd) is prioritizing the promotion and reclassification of qualified Head Teachers and Teachers-in-Charge within public schools to achieve a 1:1 principal-to-school ratio. This initiative aims to ensure that each school is led by a full-fledged principal, thereby enhancing the quality of education and administrative efficiency.

Historically, DepEd has recognized the importance of appointing qualified school principals in every public elementary and secondary school. As early as 1997, policies were adopted to empower school principals by granting them instructional, administrative, and fiscal autonomy to improve educational outcomes.

In line with these efforts, the Expanded Career Progression System for Public School Teachers has been introduced to promote professional development and define clear career paths within the public school system. This system allows teachers to pursue advancement either in classroom teaching or school administration, providing opportunities for growth and leadership.

By focusing on these strategic promotions and reclassifications, DepEd aims to strengthen school leadership across the country, ensuring that each school benefits from dedicated and qualified principals committed to delivering quality education.
