Several local government units (LGUs) in the Philippines have announced the suspension of classes for Tuesday, March 4, 2025, due to the anticipated high heat index in their respective areas. The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) has forecasted that certain regions may experience heat indices reaching dangerous levels, prompting proactive measures to ensure the safety and well-being of students and school personnel.
The Department of Education (DepEd) has reiterated that school heads have the authority to suspend in-person classes and shift to alternative delivery modes (ADM) in cases of extreme heat and other calamities that may compromise the health and safety of learners, teachers, and non-teaching personnel.
In response to these forecasts, the following areas have declared class suspensions for March 4:
Municipality of Orani, Bataan: All levels, public and private schools
Municipality of Abucay, Bataan: All levels, public and private schools
Municipality of Hermosa, Bataan - All levels, public and private schools
Municipality of Samal, Bataan - All levels, public and private schools
Bacoor, Cavite - Pre-school to Senior High School
City of Manila - All levels, public and private schools
Quezon City - Daycare, Kindergarten to Senior High School, public and private schools
These suspensions aim to mitigate the risks associated with prolonged exposure to extreme heat, which can lead to heat-related illnesses such as heat cramps, heat exhaustion, and heat stroke. The LGUs and DepEd continue to monitor the situation closely and will provide further updates as necessary to ensure the safety of all students and educational staff.
