Under the revised guidelines, teachers with at least one year of service, as well as newly hired teachers appointed within four months of the school year’s start, will now receive 30 days of VSC per year. Meanwhile, teachers appointed beyond the four-month period will be granted 45 days of VSC for the current year, ensuring fair compensation for their service.
According to DepEd, VSCs are earned when teachers work beyond regular hours, such as during summer or long breaks, weekends, holidays, and teaching overload periods. These credits can be used to offset absences due to illness or personal reasons or to recover salary deductions incurred during vacation periods.
The order also specifies the computation of overtime service credits:
- 1.25 hours of VSC per hour of eligible overtime service on regular school days
- 1.5 hours of VSC per hour of service rendered during weekends, holidays, Christmas breaks, and summer vacations
Furthermore, teachers who handle additional teaching loads without receiving overload pay will earn 1.25 hours of VSC per extra hour of teaching, aside from their standard 30-day entitlement.
The updated policy also recognizes ancillary tasks that require extra work outside regular hours. These include training sessions on weekends or holidays, remedial or enhancement classes, election-related duties, parent-teacher conferences, and home visits.
To ensure a more efficient process, VSC approval will now be managed by the Schools Division Superintendent or a designated official, streamlining the application and granting of credits.
This initiative underscores DepEd’s commitment to recognizing and compensating teachers for their dedication and service to education.
