DepEd Plans Class Schedule Adjustments Due to Extreme Heat

The Department of Education (DepEd) is set to implement adjustments to students' class schedules in response to the extreme heat being experienced in various parts of the country.

According to Education Secretary Sonny Angara, several schools have already started adjusting their class schedules. Under the new setup, morning class sessions will be held from 6:00 AM to 10:00 AM, while afternoon sessions will take place from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM. Meanwhile, asynchronous learning will be conducted between 10:00 AM and 2:00 PM.

Angara also stated that schools may transition to remote or asynchronous learning if the heat index reaches 42 degrees Celsius or higher, or if directed by the local government units (LGUs).

Additionally, he reminded schools to limit outdoor physical activities for students and to use shaded areas, such as school courts, if necessary.

To ensure the comfort and well-being of students and school personnel, DepEd has allowed the use of light and comfortable uniforms. Furthermore, Angara assured that additional electric fans will be installed in classrooms, hydration stations will be set up, and insulated water containers will be distributed to schools.

These measures aim to protect students and teachers from the risks associated with extreme heat while ensuring the continuity of learning.
