The Department of Education (DepEd) has reaffirmed its policy prohibiting electioneering and partisan activities during end-of-school-year (EOSY) ceremonies, emphasizing that these events should remain solemn and apolitical.
DepEd stressed that graduation and moving-up ceremonies should focus on students' achievements and the contributions of educators and parents. School administrators are expected to ensure compliance with this directive.
Assistant Secretary Malcolm Garma, officer-in-charge of the Office of the Undersecretary for Operations, reinforced the importance of keeping these events non-partisan. “These events are not to be used as political platforms,” he stated.
DepEd-VII Regional Director Salustiano Jimenez recently issued a memorandum reiterating this directive ahead of the May 12 National and Local Elections.
DepEd warned that violations of this policy will be met with administrative sanctions. The memorandum cites DepEd Order No. 48, Series of 2018, and DepEd Order No. 49, Series of 2006, which outline the penalties for such offenses.
The department assured the public of its commitment to maintaining a neutral learning environment, ensuring that school celebrations remain focused on students and their achievements, free from political distractions.
